When you hear such names as Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and .38 Special, you would never think that they would be related in any way to Limp Bizkit, one of the hottest bands around. The only thing tying these four bands together is the fact that they all hail from deep in Florida, Jacksonville - a central town sometimes credited as the birthplace of Southern Rock. Out of the depths of Jacksonville comes Limp Bizkit, a band that has rode to the top on the wave of friends' support and a kick a** live show, only recently catching the attention of the 'mainstream music' media.

Formed in late 1994 by lead vocalist Fred Durst, the band was then made up of Sam Rivers on bass, drummer John Otto, and Wes Borland on guitar. As legend has it, Korn's Fieldy and Head discovered Limp Bizkit in an indirect way. Using Fred's tattooing talent on the band members of Korn - and all becoming fast friends - Fred passed a Limp Bizkit demo tape onto the guys, hoping to get some help from fellow artist. Fieldy and Head then passed the demo tape on to their producer and landed Limp Bizkit a spot on the House of Pain and Deftones tour. On this tour, Limp Bizkit met their fifth and final member, DJ Lethal, who joined the band after House of Pain broke up in 1996. Limp Bizkit was finally complete with a new hip-hop, mixed up heavy rock and rap, 'seriously demented' crazy sound that is unique to them.

Three Dollar Bill Y'all was released in 1997, followed by a touring frenzy with larger-than-life stage antics on the ground breaking Family Values Tour that included emerging from a giant toilet bowl. This CD was promoted by the band on some of the biggest tickets around, such as the Warped Tour and the Ozzfest. The band also created a two-month tour aptly dubbed "Ladies Night in Cambodia," each night granting the first 200 ladies free admission. All of these genius marketing endeavors scored big for Limp Bizkit by boosting sales of Three Dollar Bill Y'all to over 1.5 million copies.
Exploding onto the mainstream music scene propelled by a thrashing, rip-out-your-vocal cords rendition of the old George Michael's hit Faith, Limp Bizkit kept up the momentum by releasing their second CD, Significant Other, and selling almost a half a million copies in its first week. With cameo appearances on Significant Other by MTV's Matt Pinfield, Korn's Jonathan Davis, Everlast, Kid Rock, and even Fred Durst's mother, this CD promises to break the sophomoric curse that so often plagues many artists in the business by surpassing in sales the Three Dollar Bill Y'all CD.

The band has developed a feel for what their audience wants and what works best for the band by writing and testing out all of the material on their second CD while they were out on tour. The band still keeps the antics up on the Family Values tour, armed with a troupe of break-dancers and a full science fiction themed stage show. Look forward to Limp Bizkit headlining the second Family Values tour, with the band also thinking of returning to the studio at the end of the year.
