Leelee Sobieski was discovered in her New York City School cafeteria. With only minimal acting experience - school plays and such - acting was something that did not come naturally to her. In the next few years, Leelee worked tirelessly to perfect her thespian abilities. Leelee struck gold, from her beginnings in television to her starring rolesin full-length silver screen movies; all of her hard work has paid off.

For the next year or so, Leelee continued attending high school between her acting gigs. In 1997, Leelee made her silver screen debut in the Disney movie Jungle 2 Jungle as the daughter of Martin Short that has a crush on Sam Huntington's Tarzan-like character. This was a box office hit and became the springboard for Leelee's career. Her next film was A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries, which starred Barbara Hershey and was shot in Paris. In 1998, Leelee starred opposite Elijah Wood in Deep Impact, a movie that centers on the impending danger of a comet striking the earth and changing civilization as we know it. Her first leading role was in May of 1999 in the four-hour CBS miniseries Joan of Arc, where she played the saintly Joan D'Arc. In this series, she worked with the likes of Jacqueline Bissett and Shirley MacLaine, among others. On the lighter side, Leelee starred opposite Drew Barrymore in the back-to-high-school comedy Never Been Kissed.
