A comedian has always lived inside Mike Myers. Growing up in Canada as the son of first generation British immigrants, Mike was influenced by his father’s love for Peter Sellers movies and the comedy of Monty Python, as well as his mother's love of acting and formal training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. At the age of 11 and with the help of his mother, Mike filmed a television commercial with the late great Gilda Radner. The young Myers fell in love with his television mother and, after seeing Gilda on Saturday Night Live, Mike set a goal to be on stage alongside her and the rest of the cast.

Fresh out of high school (three hours), Mike landed a role on Second City Comedy Troupe, the Canadian counterpart of SNL, which lasted for eight years. There he sharpened his comedic tools and developed his talent for improvisation. After working in Canada for a while, Mike moved to SCCT’s Chicago stage, where he met his future wife, Robin Ruzan.
In 1989 Mike was hired by Producer Lorne Michaels for Saturday Night Live. In the six years that he was on SNL, Myers created some of the most unforgettable characters: Wayne Campbell, Dieter, the host of Sprockets, Angus the Scotsman, and Coffee Talk host Linda Richman.

After leaving SNL, Myers developed the characters of Wayne’s World, Wayne and his side kick Garth, into a feature movie that was a box office smash. The follow up only grossed about one third of the first. Although it has a strong cult following, his next starring role in So I Married an Axe Murderer was a box office dud. Taking a break from movies, Mike Myers once again revived the role of Linda Richman and toured with Barbra Streisand.

Austin Powers is a character that Mike created under the influence of his parents. Take Peter Sellers and James Bond, stir them around in the imagination of Mike Myers and out comes Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Released in 1997, this hilarious movie tells the tale of a 1960’s superspy who was thawed from his 30-year cryogenic freeze to battle the nefarious villain Dr. Evil, also played by Myers. The movie was a complete success. Smashing, baby!

The follow up to the smash hit, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, is out in theaters around the country June 11th, 1999, and you can also catch this shagadelic spy as the spokesperson for the Virgin Atlantic Airlines.
