Yahoo!'s Web Celeb Rosie
O'Donnell
|
|
The successful;
standup comedienne, television and film star was
born and raised in Commack, Long Island in 1962.
Her idols were "all-around" performers Barbara
Streisand and Bette Midler. She is certainly well
on her way to living that dream of becoming just
like them. During her childhood she was intrigued
by collecting McDonald's Happy Meal Figurines.
Rosie was educated at Dickinson College and Boston
University.
While her popularity among the TV audience was
increasing, O'Donnell was making a name for herself
in the movies such as her motion picture debut in
Penny Marshall's 1992 smash comedy A League Of Their
Own. She believes she got the role because she was
the only actress in Hollywood who could "throw a baseball
from third to first base."

Rosie has an unabashed love of pop culture and entertainment
and her show is a celebration of this. From chatting about
the latest movies to catching up with the stars of her favorite
primetime and daytime shows to rattling off amazing amounts of
TV trivia or singing her favorite tunes with the artists that
made them famous -- there is a genuine enthusiasm and affection
for show business through it all.

Rosie has made guest
appearances on a number of television series including
her favorite daytime drama, "All My Children."
Rosie's soon-to-be-released Miramax movie, 'WIDE AWAKE',
also stars Denis Leary, Dana Delany, Robert Loggia and newcomer
Joseph Cross. The film deals with the young Joshua A. Beal
(Cross) having a difficult time just waking up in the morning.
It's his first day of fifth grade, and he has finally decided
it's time to wake up and discover life. His beloved grandfather
has passed away, but Joshua is not sure that his Grandpa is in
good hands. It's a no-holds-barred mission filled with comedy,
adventure, mystery and romance. Rosie plays the role of Sister
Terry, a nun and school teacher obsessed with sports. Says Rosie
O'Donnell, "I thought it was a really good story....and how the
characters would be real people, and the nuns wouldn't be stereotypes.
I was sold. And anyway, I wanted to explore my nunly side."
