Yahoo!'s Web Celeb Brad Pitt

It might surprise you to know that Brad Pitt's climb to superstardom was not up a golden ladder.  He did not slide into Hollywood on his good looks and he wasn't an overnight sensation.  Brad's road to success went through the El Pollo Loco restaurant that he stood outside in a chicken outfit for; it went through the days of escorting strippers around in a limousine and handing out free cigarette samples.  The money from these odd-jobs helped to pay for community theater and acting lessons. Slowly, he began to find his way into television.

Some of his first roles were as "an idiot boyfriend" on "Dallas," spots on "Another World" and the Fox television series "Glory Days."  Then, in 1990, he landed a role in the made-for-television movie "Too Young to Die."  It was during this shoot that Brad met Juliette Lewis (16), with whom he had a long-term relationship.  Brad was getting closer to the breakout movie role that would propel him into the bright lights of Hollywood - the break he had been waiting for ever since he left college needing only two credit hours to graduate.

William Bradley Pitt is the oldest of three children.  He was born on December 18, 1963, in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  His mother was a school counselor and his father worked as an executive at a trucking firm.  The family moved to Springfield, Missouri, where Brad attended Kickapoo High School.  He met the standards of the All-American Boy - debate team, student government, choir, theater, baseball, tennis, camping in the Ozarks - but most of all, Brad was a movie buff.  He told CNN in 1995, "It started with the drive-ins, you know.  Sitting on the hood of the car with your family, eating the cold popcorn that your mom made before because it was too expensive there."

Brad attended the University of Missouri, majored in Journalism and Advertising, joined the fraternity Sigma Chi, and "got in enough trouble to keep things interesting."  He posed for the "Men of Mizzou" pinup calender and, in 1987 (his senior year), he left college, two credit hours short of graduation.  He hopped in his car named "Runaround Sue" and headed for California.  He arrived in Los Angeles with $325.00 in his pocket.  He did the odd-jobs thing for a little while, and then he finally scored his breakout role.

Brad was cast in the role of "J.D." a lanky cowboy in the movie "Thelma and Louise."  In just fourteen minutes of screen time, Brad created a character so memorable that it launched what will most likely be a long, high-profile film career.  He followed up that success with a good turn in "A River Runs Through It," and then as a vampire in "Interview With The Vampire," where Brad held his own against Tom Cruise.  He's also worked with Harrison Ford in " The Devil's Own," Morgan Freeman in "Seven," Bruce Willis in "Twelve Monkeys," and Anthony Hopkins in "Legends of the Fall" and the upcoming "Meet Joe Black" from Universal Studios  Now, young aspiring actors are trying to get roles in Brad Pitt films.

Brad also has the misfortune of being the darling of the tabloid magazines (who can say Gwyneth Paltrow without thinking of Brad Pitt?) but, for the most part, Brad has managed to keep his personal life - well, personal.  He is currently rumored to be dating Jennifer Aniston, but that's not really our business.  What we do know is that Brad has a movie coming out soon called "Meet Joe Black," and he's currently in talks with Oliver Stone about a future project.  It doesn't look like his film career - or his life in the tabloids - will be over anytime soon.
